The reason for my contact is that our client - Cundall - are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join their large (and expanding) Critical Systems team. The role will involve working mostly on Data Centre projects, from plant upgrades through to 100 MW+ hyperscale projects.

What Does Success Look Like In This Job?

  • Technically sound work consistently designed and delivered in accordance with agreed deadlines and budgets
  • Evidence of the effective mentoring and coaching of less experienced staff and of their professional development


Decision Making Authority:

  1. Day to day coordination and supervision of the activities of colleagues within the project team
  2. Supporting the development of less experienced team members
  3. Checking the work of less experienced staff, in accordance with Operational Procedures
  4. Representing the business at meetings with third parties
  5. Pro-actively managing own professional development within the framework provided by accredited training agreements


Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Produce engineering designs, calculations and specifications, using appropriate technical software
  • Co-ordinate input from other disciplines and specialisms as required
  • Prepare technical reports in accordance with clients' briefs
  • Supervise and coordinate the production of technical drawings
  • Check calculations, specifications, drawings and reports produced by others, in accordance with Operational Procedures
  • Attend and participate in client and (internal and external) project meetings
  • Undertake site visits to monitor the progress of works against Cundall's specification, and highlight issues to the contractor, client and/or (internal or external) project manager as necessary
  • Report regularly to relevant Associate(s) on the performance of projects against agreed project plans and budgets
  • Correspond with external third parties (eg clients, contractors, architects and/or manufacturers) regarding information and technical queries
  • Comply with project management, Operational (QA), Environmental and Health and Safety procedures
  • Provide training and coaching to less experienced staff
  • Proactively manage own continuing professional development (including, where appropriate, actively pursuing Chartership with an appropriate professional institution)
  • Attend project meetings, site as well as factory tests both in the UK and abroad

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience:

You will ideally have experience with, or at least an understanding of, critical systems (e.g. UPS, generators, MV/LV switchgear etc.). You will have the opportunity to grow your knowledge by working with highly technical colleagues.

  • Engineering qualification at Bachelor's degree level or higher in a relevant discipline
  • Proven technical competence and experience
  • Proven ability to plan and programme own work and that of others
  • Demonstrable commitment to supporting the professional development of less experienced staff
  • Evidence of progress towards achieving recognition as a Chartered professional
