Allen Flavors, Inc. is looking for a Laboratory Technician, Product Development!

Allen Flavors, Inc. is a flavor formulation and ingredient supply-company currently seeking a Laboratory Technician to work in our Product Development Department in various roles associated with the manufacturing of beverage formulation.

Laboratory Technician, Product Development

The Laboratory Technician will be responsible be for ordering supplies, sample receipts, and small equipment maintenance. Provides support to the Laboratory Department in testing beverage products. Must have basic lab experience, weighing & mixing ingredients, and understanding of lab safety.

Roles & Responsibilities
Be able to Perform TA, Brix, RI, Density, refractive index, and color testing using spectrophotometer.
Have an understanding of nutritive and non nutritive sweeteners and be able to formulate to a specific # of calories per serving using combinations of any.
Have an understanding of vitamin and mineral active levels and how to formulate a vitamin/mineral premix (Excel).
Must understand the concept of unitizing ingredients in a beverage plant formula for ease of use (Excel).
Understand various ways to extend product shelf life and how to select the processing parameters for different beverage systems (i.e. pasteurization, preservatives)
Must be familiar with Excel.
Must be able to take direction
Must demonstrate an ability to weigh accurately and show good lab practices.
Must be able to make sample labels and lab request sheets for shipping samples.
Must be able to calibrate the lab equipment (titrino, refractometer, ph meters)
Must understand the ingredient replenishment protocol.
Understand and implement Company Certified programs such as HACCP, NSF, SQF, Food Defense and Food Safety programs as required
Knowledge in our processing procedures: re-labels and packaging on varies sizes
Identify the distinction between products that are being made
Understand the appropriate sequence of batch making
Other duties assigned by Management

Education

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Food Science, or a related field.

Experience

One to two years’ experience in a laboratory setting. Beverage development experience considered.

Skills
High level of expertise in Microsoft Office - Word, Excel
Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and follow-up skills.
Demonstrated personal initiative, responsibility, and flexibility.
Ability to work under limited supervision and to handle multiple assignments with limited time constraints
Ability to manage cross-functional project teams and multiple projects in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment
Must have good problem-solving skills
Must have good math skills
